Well, I can tell you what it is not. It is not a religion or a cult, it is a connection within you. It originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It was brought to the west in the 20th century. The essence of yoga is a path of freedom from the habitual cycles of the mind. It teaches us to be present. The word “yoga” translates union. Union of body, mind, and breath. It is a practice that we can take into the world.
No! Yoga is not a competitive sport. Anyone can practice yoga, regardless of age, body type or fitness level. Yoga is a great equalizer. Two people walk into a yoga practice, ( this isn’t a set up for a joke) one very flexible with no strength and the other super strong with no flexibility. The same postures will create strength in the flexible one flexibility in the strong one. The postures can always be modified to fit anyones needs.
Don’t let OM scare you. OM is the scared symbol that represents the infinite and transcends words. OM, also pronounced AUM, when repeated is said to generate energy that leads one to meditation. The OM sound is the vibration of life itself.
Yes, but not the way you think. It’s not the postures themselves that help you lose weight, it's the outlook you develop from the practice. Yoga allows you to relax, and begin to eat in a mindful way that is natural and self-regulating.
Don’t eat before practice, allow 2 hours after a light meal and 4 hours after a heavy meal.
It is best to practice yoga barefoot, please remove your shoes before entering the yoga space.
It is best to bring your own mat; however, we have mats if you forget yours. Please clean after using.
